To my mind the far more important issue to come out of the NOTW phone hacking scandal is not who hacked who’s phone but which coppers sold what data and for how much?
The rampant hacking of victims of crimes phones and the admittance of payments to police officers by Rebbekah Brooks suggests a culture of bribery and collusion within certain elements of the Met Police.
The information flows between cops and the press may not be the headline story at the moment, but if collusion – or indeed corruption – can be proved then this could well have some long lasting damage. It could also go some way to explaining why the original police investigation failed to pick up on the now evident hacking. But perhaps I’m being cynical?
